Chelsea
Chelsea is an affluent area known for the smart boutiques & high-end restaurants lining busy King’s Road. The National Army Museum traces British army history from the 1600s to the present, while the Saatchi Gallery displays contemporary art in the Duke of York’s headquarters. The red-coated retired soldiers known as the Chelsea Pensioners run guided tours of their residence, the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Victoria
A busy transport hub for national rail and coach services, Victoria is home to chain restaurants and mainstream stores in the Victoria Place and Cardinal Place shopping centres. The 1903 neo Byzantine-style Westminster Cathedral, built in striped red brick and pale stone, is the Roman Catholic mother church for England and Wales. The Apollo Victoria and Victoria Palace theatres put on musicals and drama.
Putney
Putney is an affluent area known as the starting point of the annual university Boat Race, when spectators pack its lively riverside pubs. Bars and casual spots for pizza and burgers cluster on and around the busy High Street, while chain fashion stores fill Putney Exchange mall. Putney Heath, a vast plateau of woodland and open glades criss-crossed with paths, is popular for picnics and has a cricket ground.
